At Portfolio Financial Servicing Company, we are committed to supporting and improving the communities in which we live. Each year, we make meaningful investments through our philanthropic efforts, employee volunteerism and community development activities. Our Community Service Committee works with non-profit organizations and community leaders in order to identify areas of need where we can have the greatest impact. Then, we go to work, committing both financial and human resources to serve and improve the lives of those around us.
We also promote and support an environmentally responsible workplace. We do this by:
- Maintaining a company-wide recycling program
- Investing in newer and more efficient technology to reduce energy consumption
- Paying for public transportation/mass transit passes for our employees
- Developing less resource intensive business practices
- Installing high efficiency and motion-activated lighting throughout our corporate office

The American Red Cross helps prepare communities for emergencies and keep people safe every day. From its beginning, the American Red Cross has formed a community of service, of generous, strong and decent people bound by beliefs beyond themselves. The American Red Cross blood donor embodies this principle. PFSC was pleased to host a blood drive at PFSC’s office that resulted in 32 pints of blood being donated to the American Red Cross.
Since 1923, the Portland Police Bureau Sunshine Division has been providing emergency food and clothing relief to Portland families and individuals in need. PFSC was proud to host a food drive for this long-time community organization, which pitted management against staff in a competition to raise the most food for this worthy organization. Over 6,000 pounds of food was donated by PFSC employees, which significantly exceeded our goal of 1,000 pounds, and was reportedly one of the largest food donations ever for a company of PFSC’s size.
The Union Gospel Mission is dedicated to “Feeding the hungry, restoring the addict, and loving our neighbor”. They have been helping the homeless and hungry in Portland since 1927. PFSC held a clothing/blanket drive to collect articles of clothing and blankets to help keep those that are less fortunate warm and clothed. PFSC donated over 130 articles of clothing and blankets to help keep Portland’s disadvantaged residents warm throughout the winter.
The mission of Dress for Success is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. They provide disadvantaged women with the opportunity to get the appropriate clothing they need for job interviews to help them get on their feet and back into the workforce. Thanks to PFSC employee donations, 25 women will be supplied with outfits to help them take a step forward in their careers.
The Salvation Army’s Adopt-A-Family program matches impoverished families with individual or group sponsors to provide for their tangible needs at Christmas. Without the benefit of an adoption, these families would be looking forward to a very grim holiday. Being adopted is designed to be a once or, on very rare occasions, twice in a lifetime event for recipient families. PFSC adopted a family of five for the holiday season. Through the donation of time, money and creativity, we were able to provide each family member with items from their wish list, a personalized stocking full of goodies, supplies to wrap the gifts, cleaning supplies, hygienic products (shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc.) and a gift card to buy food for a nice holiday meal.
Schoolhouse Supplies serves classrooms in need by operating a volunteer-run Free Store for Teachers, which is stocked with supplies donated by the community. PFSC employees collected over a barrel full of school supplies to donate to the Schoolhouse Supply Drive. Along with PFSC’s contributions, Schoolhouse Supply was able to send more than 9,000 children back to school with the tools needed to learn, and raised more than $225,000 in cash and school supply donations.
Al Kader Shriners was founded in Portland in 1888, and was the first Shrine Center to be established in the Pacific Northwest. Shriners International supports Shriners Hospitals for Children®, an international health care system of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing specialty pediatric care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs. Each year, PFSC makes a monetary donation to this outstanding organization.
